About the Artist
“Diving into unknown territories with snippets of ideas, not knowing where I am going to land is what excites me. Getting out of my own way and following the path of the ‘aha’ moments is what drives the exploration, invention, abstraction, and playful action that gives authentic voice to my work.”
Southern artist, Camilla Brunschwyler Armstrong, has been creating from the backyard studio she fondly calls, OutOnAWhim, since 1989. In 35 years, Camilla’s work has gone through many transitions, since creating the colorful tablescapes and angel messengers, that helped establish her career. Her representation by Julesplace/Art for Living in Boston, Anne Irwin Fine Art in Atlanta, Stonehenge Gallery, Inc. in Montgomery, has allowed her work to reside in corporate and private collections throughout the United States. Her work has also been featured on covers of a variety of publications. Camilla received her BFA in printmaking from Birmingham Southern College in 1976.
“ I have often felt a tug of war of sorts between working in pure abstraction or exploring objective imagery. But, over the past 35 years I have come to understand that my desire to express meaning through personal, symbolic, and iconic imagery and to touch upon what is holy and sacred, still prevails, if not literally, then energetically.” I can’t wait for what is next!”
